Hello Remote Claners πŸ‘‹

(promise, I'll find a better word for my next post πŸ™„)

Video is such a powerful medium to showcase your product and brand, and raise awareness on the problems you solve.Β

A lot of us here are makers, and probably looking for inspiration and/or feedback for their next Spielberg project --> let's use this thread to share our own video explainer or the one we wish we had created 😍

Here is the video I wish I created: Zendesk Sunshine Video

Oh great topic. Thanks for tagging me @hrishikesh. My other project is actually a game development showcase called Skirmish. And before the launch of the new version, I worked with a studio to prepare an explainer video. And it came out so good, it won several awards, including German Design Award 2019 & Platinum Winner - Muse Creative Awards.Β

This video is super cool Bashar πŸ™Œ

Background score, characters, voiceover & script all are so contextual to game dev. It almost felt like listening to an epic narrative in games.

I am curious now, how much did it cost you to make this?

      1. 2

Thanks. This is exactly what we were going for, and worked really hard to get it :)

        Β

It cost little over $4K, including VO. Which is a steal considering the quality tbh.Β

        1. 2

Hmm, given the quality, $4K is surely on the lower side. But I don't think most makers would budget this amount for an explainer video :/

Let's see what @sophia has to say about this. She's taking up my suggestion of creating an explainer for Excelway :)

          1. 3

As much as I love the video, I would not say it's a must. Perhaps you can do with a smaller budget video, using these online tools. Not gonna be as catchy. But for a startup wanting to save every penny, there definitely are other options.

Also, you need to factor in the Promo cost of the video. Running ads on YouTube is costly, and doesn't yield the conversions I was hoping for.

            Things to keep in mind.

            1. 2

              Very well said. Thanks Bashar.

πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘ Amazing! Looks really epic - I can see why it wons o many awards :)

        1. 1

          Thanks a lot!Β

        2. 2

Wow! This is really impressive πŸ’― I must say the studio did an excellent job

          1. 1

The absolutely did. The studio is Blu Blu Studios btw if anyone is interested. Though their prices did go up. So keep that in mind.Β

        3. 2

          Really cool post.

Sharing a couple of short videos we created (big disclaimer: this is all us, so don't expect studio quality πŸ˜›)

Launch video for Scale. @karthik created this just a few days back.

Short launch clip for Remote Tools. Created back in July, 2019.

A video explainer I wish I had created

          Β

On my TODO: Create an explainer for Remote Clan 😎

@tafftalk, @raul, @nimrod-62, @sundargokul, @Bashar: Curious to know about your own explainer video/ your favourite one!

            1. 2

Oh, my favorite ones are definitely from FontAwesome. The team that creates marvelous icons.

I was an early backer on their Kickstarter for V5. Their video was exquisite. And now they launched V6 with another great explainer video. They probably invested a ton of money into this but it certainly paid off.

For my own product, I made some lousy demos w/o sound. I'm even ashamed to showcase them. As my main strength is programming, but I struggle to expand my knowledge so hopefully in the upcoming feature I can level up this skill too.

              1. 2

The videos surely look awesome - funny & cool ;) Not discounting the effort, but I think people come to expect such a great video at their scale and it makes sense to put in a lot of money on this.

I would still love to look at your videos (although you can share it whenever you're comfortable:) ) and don't think you should think less of them or the effort that went in. If you're helping out a user with a demo video, the purpose's already served.

Although I think a tool like Loom has made it quite simple & easy to create demo videos now. This wasn't the case a few years back.

          2. 2

Thanks for the mention Hrishikesh :)

Hey Sophia, I like the sound of Remote Clanners too :P

Coming to the topic of our discussion - totally, I think videos are very powerful. Not only is understanding concepts easier when someone is explaining it to us visually, but in the past 5 years I think people have also become quite lazy. So, expecting them to read your blog, etc. to understand your offering becomes very tough. A quick 1 to 1.5 minute video does a beautiful job at that.

Now about my Spielberg project (it is good that he isn't going to read this), I actually made the video in a couple of hours. Scale is my side project and I wanted the video to be personable + also not look too professional - it should look like I made it. So, I made it quickly on iMovie. Of course, I got a big star (Rocket) to act in it :P.

I really liked the video you shared by Zendesk! I think the one small part I didn't like about it was that they spoke about the concept abstractly for 50 seconds of a 75-second video and then explained Zendesk Sunshine very vaguely (I am not sure why I as a user should be concerned about it being hosted on AWS).

While I don't like Upwork (and that's why I am working on a competitor platform), I have got to say their concept video is one of the best I have seen: Upwork video. It is inspiring, gives context about the industry and also makes Upwork look really cool.

Hey Sophia, I am a huge fan of animated explainer videos simply because it makes me quickly understand the benefit of using the product. Zendesk surely does a fabulous work of creating some of the best animated videos.

Currently, Medium's explainer video is at the top of my favorite list. The subtle tone of the video addresses the present dilemma and then provides a simple solution to it. I'll leave the rest for you guys to watch πŸ˜…
