Remote Work Experience

Yes, at Flexiple our tech team is remote. Further, we consistently work with freelancers from our network who are located across timezones. It is an interesting dynamic that poses challenges but also enforces discipline like nothing else I have experiened before.

I think these are 3 important parts to being successful as a remote worker

1. Discipline: This might sound cliched, however, I think discipline is perhaps the most important trait needed. It is so easy to get distracted when you are responsible to define your routine. Sticking to a routine and finding success with it requires a lot of discipline. 2. Work vs. Personal time separation: I personally struggle with this. Especially during COVID-19 this has been tough given I work out of home. Work and personal time seemed to have merged into one, which after a certain while does take a toll. 3. Documentation: Conversation on Slack and video calls have very little life. Our memories are worse. In a setting where you can turn around and confirm details around past conversations, high quality documentation becomes super critical.

Here's how I plan to contribute to The Remote Clan

I have built Flexiple to $700,000 in revenues and also Remote Tools to a newsletter audience of 4000 subscribers - hence, I can share my experiences around building startups. Around remote work, I am the host of The Remote Working Show and also the writer of the guide Remote Work 2020. Interaction with leaders in the industry at Gitlab, Invision, Scrapinghub, FlexJobs, etc. has helped me understand the nuances of remote work in greater detail. Would be happy to share my knowledge in these aspects.

Here's what I want to gain from The Remote Clan

Want to be able to learn and connect with like-minded people. I think the amount of learning one can get from an expert in a quality community is multifold whenc ompared to what one gets from reading big & fat non-fiction books. Remote work is definitely the future of work and I would like to part of the people who are investing in this tomorrow, today.

These are the 2 best topics to start off a conversation with me

- Dogs: No other species in this planet is better, least of all human beings - Tennis: Big Rafael Nadal fan - Music: I sing and play the guitar. Hoping to release my album soon. You can't go wrong if you start a conversation on any of the above :-)
