Remote Work Experience
Worked remotely as contractor and full-time employee for 8 years. Started after taking time off after the birth of my third child and didn't want to go back to late nights in the office.
I think these are 3 important parts to being successful as a remote worker
As manager of a remote team I find the first important thing is to finish tasks independently. During on-boarding is the most difficult time and finishing a task really settles people into the flow of focusing more on tasks completed than necessarily sitting on Slack 9-5 like you were in an office. The second thing people need to get the hang of is catching up on things via office communication tools. Some really struggle to keep on top of things and get isolated in their own bubble. Communicating in public is probably the last thing that can be a hangup, people can be reluctant to post on team chats and forums but not engaging can make people feel isolated and damages team dynamics.

I intend to build experimental tools that could change the way we work for the better. Site at https://kodalia.com/
Here's what I want to gain from The Remote Clan
Opinions and suggestions on tools, as well as ideas for new ways of working that can help my team work better remotely.
These are the 2 best topics to start off a conversation with me
Being an expat, I'm an Englishman living in USA, who also lived in Canada for 7 years. I've had many visas! Or sailing - If it's a summer, spring or fall weekend I'll likely be on my boat next weekend.
